St. Dominic Priory in Denver, Colorado
Project Overview
St. Dominic Priory in Denver, Colorado, approached Denver Stained Glass to bring artistic and spiritual depth to their newly constructed building. Father Louis and David envisioned transforming the twelve plain-glass windows surrounding their downtown sanctuary into meaningful works of art. While the church wanted to maintain the flow of natural light, they also sought increased privacy and a thoughtful way to depict the life of their patron, St. Dominic.
Our design team conducted extensive research into St. Dominic’s life, teachings, and defining moments, selecting key stories that could be artistically conveyed across the series. The result was twelve custom stained glass windows—each one telling a “story within a story”—beautifully honoring his devotion, faith, and enduring spiritual legacy.
Project Details
This custom stained glass project in Denver, Colorado, was created for a new Catholic priory built with stained glass in mind. The structure featured double-pane window pockets specifically designed to accommodate future stained glass installations—a thoughtful architectural decision that made the entire process remarkably smooth. Using leaded and hand-painted glass, our team crafted panels that fit seamlessly into the existing frames, allowing the artwork to integrate naturally with the building’s clean, modern design.
The project highlights an important lesson for churches and religious institutions undertaking new construction: planning for stained glass from the beginning ensures that beauty, functionality, and practicality can come together effortlessly when the time is right. The final installation enhances the priory with warmth, privacy, and meaning—perfectly complementing its spiritual purpose.
Notable Highlights
What makes the St. Dominic Priory project especially remarkable is the seamless blend of story and foresight. Each window captures a key moment from the life of St. Dominic, creating a luminous narrative that reflects themes of faith, study, and service. These twelve windows work together as a visual journey, enriching the sanctuary with symbolic meaning and spiritual depth.
Equally impressive is the architectural planning that made this project possible. Decades earlier, the building had been designed with stained glass pockets already in place—an incredible act of foresight that allowed the installation to unfold exactly as intended. Because of this preparation, the new stained glass integrates effortlessly into the space, offering both privacy and a vibrant display of color and light.
Now complete, the windows bathe the priory in a soft, reverent glow, offering daily inspiration to everyone who gathers within.
