Deer Creek Church in Littleton, Colorado

Project Overview

Deer Creek Church in Littleton, Colorado, partnered with Denver Stained Glass to enhance their worship space with a design that beautifully balanced tradition and modernity. Worship Pastor Aaron Ellis shared that the church’s east-facing sanctuary was often overwhelmed by harsh morning sunlight, creating both visual discomfort and aesthetic challenges. In addition to controlling the light, the church hoped to express five central Presbyterian concepts—word, water, bread, wine, and prayer—without relying on figurative religious imagery.

Our designer, Maria, took on the unique task of capturing these five “means of grace” in a way that aligned with the congregation’s theology while still uplifting the sanctuary. After several rounds of design exploration, she developed a concept that blended Gothic-inspired structure with contemporary abstraction. Soft, cloud-like forms were hand-painted to symbolize the meeting of heaven and earth, while the five sacred words were subtly integrated into the composition.

The final design not only fulfilled the church’s symbolic and theological goals but also created a peaceful visual rhythm that transforms the worship environment. It stands as a thoughtful intersection of faith, artistry, and architectural intention.

Project Details

This custom stained glass project in Littleton, Colorado, was created for a Presbyterian church seeking a design that honored their theology while refreshing the aesthetic of their worship space. The windows were crafted using airbrushed and hand-painted leaded glass, allowing for a soft, ethereal quality that still offered durability and clarity.

The project demanded both artistic vision and technical innovation. To achieve the church’s desired look, Maria developed a new method of airbrushing and kiln-firing paint directly onto the glass, creating the cloud-like forms that define the installation. These gentle, atmospheric shapes were paired with Gothic-inspired framework that echoed the church’s architecture, blending heritage with a modern sense of contemplation.

After presenting eight initial design concepts, the final selection struck the perfect balance—respecting traditional Presbyterian symbolism while introducing a fresh, contemporary beauty. The completed windows now serve as a serene and meaningful focal point, enriching the worship experience for the entire congregation.

Notable Highlights

This installation stands out as one of the most conceptually meaningful projects we’ve had the privilege to create. At Deer Creek Church, complex Presbyterian theology is translated into visual form, with each symbolic element—word, water, bread, wine, and prayer—woven thoughtfully into an abstract composition. Once the symbolism is explained, congregants often express how powerfully the design resonates, revealing layers of spiritual storytelling embedded within the soft, cloud-like imagery.

The congregation’s response has been overwhelmingly positive. Church members describe the windows as both visually stunning and deeply moving, noting how the artwork enhances their worship experience and brings a renewed sense of reflection and reverence to the sanctuary.
